22-year-old Umi Hafieza Abdullah, a Malaysian woman from Terengganu narrated her moment of horror on TikTok when she was diagnosed with cirrhosis, or a late-stage liver disease, which was later determined to be due to her unhealthy obsession with skin bleaching.
According to Umi Hafieza, she started taking whitening drips since March this year at a local beauty center in Jertih, Terengganu. "I was interested in skin whitening injections because I wanted to look more attractive since I am selling beauty products," Umi confessed. "I was taken to the hospital when my ALT test indicated a high reading."
Se was admitted on the 14th of October after months of taking whitening drips.
The obsession with having pasty, bleached skin tone and equating it with beauty needs to be eradicated and Malaysian women, especially, need to erase the perception that they need to go to extreme lengths just to cater to ridiculous beauty standards when they possess much too unique an appeal to be reduced to just one spectrum of what it means to look attractive.
Last but not least, taking skin whitening drips will only jeopardize your health in the long run, so don't do it.
