A man from Ratchaburi province, Thailand, got more than he bargained for when he purchased a black bean ice cream from a street vendor only to find a small snake frozen inside.
The bizarre discovery quickly went viral after the man posted photos of the reptile poking out from the ice cream on Facebook on 4 March. With a touch of humor, he captioned the post, "The doe-eyed snake, are you dead yet?" even noting that the vendor himself was stunned by the unexpected ingredient.
The post sparked a frenzy online, amassing over 8k likes and 9k shares. Netizens were quick to identify the snake as a golden tree snake a species commonly found in Southeast Asia, which can be mildly venomous.
While the sight of a frozen snake in a sweet treat might alarm most people, many social media users found amusement in the situation. One person joked, "Don't eat it yet! Wait for it to melt so it can be revived," while another quipped, "A new formula with added protein."
However, some users raised concerns about hygiene and food safety. "It looks funny at first, but thinking about how a snake ended up in there is quite disturbing," one person commented. Another questioned whether more snakes could be lurking in the vendor's supply.
As of now, authorities have yet to respond to the incident, according to The Nation Thailand. Meanwhile, the mystery of how the snake ended up in the frozen dessert remains unsolved.
