Ladies, we've seen the signs in public toilets where it warns us to not flush sanitary pads down the toilet, right? Flushing the used pads can cause clogging due to the pads absorbing the water and expanding.
However, we found out there is one sustainable brand that produces sanitary pads you can actually flush away. A revolutionary invention!
Let us introduce to you, Planera. A new brand from the UK producing the world's first certified sanitary pads that are completely flushable. Simply throw the used pads in the toilet and it will break down like normal toilet paper.
As you can see from the video, the pad breaks down completely in water. Designed to be as effective as traditional sanitary pads, it is soft and has a high level of absorbency made with biodegradable plant fibres. There are no microplastics. Therefore, no waste. Definitely a game changer.
Whether you flush it away or throw it into the bin, both ways are totally okay. The pads will definitely not end up in landfill as they are fully made of biodegradable plant fibres.
Planera's co-founder, Dr. Olivia Ahn along with engineer Aaron Koshy, set up on developing flushable and biodegradable sanitary pads.
"With the world quite literally on fire, we need a sustainable solution for disposable sanitary products. Our pads provide that, using existing sewage infrastructure," says Dr. Ahn.
Planera will be officially releasing the flushable sanitary pads in November. Still keen on wanting to try them out? Visit Planera's website as they offer a trial box of five sanitary pads to 300 people every month. Give it a go, ladies!
