Has modern urban life caused a rapid evolution in people's views on love? A survey conducted by a popular dating app among users in Malaysia found that an astonishing 70% of Malaysians in urban areas believe they are not suitable for monogamous relationships!
Monogamous relationships have always been seen as the most ideal form of connection, where people believe that true happiness can only be achieved by building a deep bond with one specific person. However, it appears that modern urban singles in society have undergone a shift in their perspectives on love.
The survey conducted by the popular dating app, JustDating, among users in Malaysia revealed that 70% of Malaysians in urban areas, including the Klang Valley, Penang, and Johor Bahru, feel they are not suited for monogamous relationships. Only a minority believe they can adapt to a "forever" kind of love.
Among those who feel they cannot enter into long-lasting relationships, a staggering 61% admitted to having "love traumas." The top three reasons causing these "traumas" include "ambiguity with others," "infidelity," and "sexual dissatisfaction."
According to the findings, even though a majority of urban Malaysians feel they cannot engage in committed relationships, they still enjoy dating and, on average, have three short-term romantic encounters at the same time.
Further examination of the survey reveals significant gender differences. There are 15% more males than females who believe they can "sustain a monogamous relationship." However, females indicate that it depends on the situation and are more open to the idea of having an emotional partner and multiple physical partners in their love life.
When analyzed by residential areas, it becomes apparent that users from larger cities tend to lean towards romantic dating, with the Klang Valley having the highest number of such users. On the other hand, users from smaller areas are more inclined towards long-term relationships, including those in the East Coast and East Malaysia, such as Kuantan, Kuala Terengganu, and Kuching.
Times have changed, and so have people's notions of love. What are your thoughts on the above survey? Let's discuss in the comments!
