When it comes to spending a significant amount for a gastronomic adventure, ensuring it's worth both the money and the taste buds seems only reasonable.
In the case of local influencers Qiu Wen and Cyrus, their vegetarian omakase experience, totalling RM12,659.10 for Qiu Wen's birthday, turned out to be highly disappointing.
Translation: I never write negative reviews because I understand how tough running a business can be. But besides the nice environment here, I paid RM888 for a set. The chef's attitude was unpleasant, and the food was not explained throughout. When we asked for wasabi, he told us to use the sauce from the food. The shrimp was mushy and tasteless. At one point, I wondered if I was spending money or enduring torture. Not exaggerating, I had stomach cramps and diarrhoea soon after. If the food wasn't good, that's one thing, but the chef acted as if I owed him money. Today, for three people's birthdays, we spent over RM10,000, only to have such an experience. Running a restaurant is not easy, but could they put more heart into it?
Sharing her ordeal on Instagram stories, she lamented about the chef's unpleasant attitude and the lack of explanations throughout the courses.
Translation: Such a terrible omakase, my birthday meal is ruined. This is one of my handrolls, just a very perfunctory roll. And that carrot is raw and very hard.
Qiu Wen recounted how, upon requesting wasabi, they were instructed to use the sauce from the food already served, while the shrimp appeared mushy and flavourless.
"At one point, I wondered if I was spending money or enduring torture," she disclosed, revealing subsequent stomach cramps and diarrhoea.
She criticized the chef's demeanour, emphasizing that while managing a restaurant isn't easy, a touch more dedication could make a considerable difference. Furthermore, her critique extended to the handrolls, which she deemed lacklustre, with the carrot served raw.
Translation: This tofu is also terrible. It's just a pile of overcooked tofu with no flavour. I purposely came here on an empty stomach to enjoy good food, but the more I eat, the more disheartened I feel. We booked this room for twelve people for a minimum of ten thousand, yet this is what we got.
The tofu, she noted, appeared overcooked and lacked flavour.
"I purposely came here on an empty stomach to enjoy good food, but the more I eat, the more disheartened I feel. We booked this room for twelve people for a minimum of ten thousand, yet this is what we get."
Translation: Super cheap desserts, haha. That cake looks like it's from a convenience store. The entire meal felt like we were being brushed off. The vegetarian option was priced at RM388, while the regular was RM888. None of them seemed freshly made; it felt like they were taken out of the fridge.
The dessert segment did not escape her scrutiny either, as she likened the cake to a store-bought variety and expressed a sense of negligence surrounding the entire meal.
"None of them seemed freshly made; it felt like they were taken out of the fridge."

Qiu Wen did acknowledge having experienced meticulously prepared vegetarian omakase meals previously, making this particular experience even more disappointing.
