A motorcyclist with their child is believed to have suffered severe injuries after being involved in an accident with an express bus in Indera Sempurna near Kuantan, Pahang on Monday. According to the dashboard camera recording of the involved vehicle, the incident occurred at 12:50 p.m. The video circulated on WhatsApp the same day, and based on the initial information shared, both victims were allegedly hit by the bus.
The dashboard camera footage indicates that the bus was in the right lane. The motorcycle is believed to have exited an intersection before cutting to the right, causing the bus to be unable to stop in time, resulting in a collision. This impact caused both individuals to be thrown and rolled several times on the road. More distressingly, the unfortunate child was seen not wearing a helmet.
The District Police Chief of Kuantan stated that the five-year-old victim suffered injuries to the hands, body, and head and is currently being treated in the emergency ward (red zone) of Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA). As for the 43-year-old mother, she is being treated in the hospital's yellow zone. Initial investigation found that the bus, without passengers, was driven by a 41-year-old man travelling from Terengganu to Johor.
The bus driver attempted to avoid but failed when colliding with the motorcycle due to the proximity. The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
