According to Focus Taiwan, the death toll now rises to 4 following the food poisoning incident currently unfolding in Taipei.
To recap for our readers, it was reported that 35 customers, including three hospitalised in critical care, had been reported to have become ill after dining at a branch of the Malaysian restaurant chain 'Polam Kopitiam' in Taipei, between March 18 and 24.
Deputy Health Minister Victor Wang stated that one of the four fatalities died from multiple organ failure, on Monday.
This was the second death in three days, after another patient's multiple organ failure death was confirmed earlier on Saturday. The other two victims passed away last month.
The woman who died on Monday was reportedly about forty years old, according to accounts from the local media. She experienced symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea after eating "kway teow" (flat rice noodles) at the restaurant chain's Xinyi location in mid-March.

"One of the two patients who are still in critical condition has had a liver transplant, while the other is still receiving care in the unit", said Wang.
This case is currently being investigated as a suspected violation of the Act Governing Food Safety and Sanitation, with the deaths caused by negligence. All severe cases have tested positive for Bongkrekic acid, a rare toxin reported in Taiwan for the first time.
As of now, while the case is still open, the business owner, the manager of the restaurant branch, and a chef have all been banned from leaving the country.
