A 74-year-old Malaysian man tragically lost his life yesterday (25 September) following a collision between his motorcycle and an ambulance in Padawan. The accident occurred around noon along Jalan Penrissen, near the 18th-mile mark heading towards Serian.
According to reports from Sin Chew Daily, the victim, a resident of Sin San Village, was attempting to make a U-turn at an intersection when he inadvertently crossed into the path of the oncoming ambulance. Superintendent Mohamad Ivhan Hafidz, Padawan District Police Chief, confirmed that the ambulance was unable to avoid the motorcycle, resulting in a collision that caused the man and his bike to be flipped and dragged to the center of the road.
Medical personnel inside the ambulance immediately sprang into action, rushing to assist the man. However, despite their efforts, the severity of his injuries meant that he showed no signs of life. The elderly man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police investigations were conducted on-site, and the body of the deceased was later transported to the Serian Hospital mortuary. A post-mortem examination will be carried out before the body is handed over to the family for burial arrangements.
This unfortunate accident highlights the tragic consequences that can arise in moments of miscalculation on the road, leaving behind grieving loved ones.
