A 21-year-old Singaporean woman, Alssa Lyn Tay, tragically lost her life in a motorcycle accident on Tuesday, December 10. The accident occurred along the North-South Expressway while she was returning to Singapore after a short visit to Genting Highlands to see her mother.
Alssa was riding with her 23-year-old boyfriend when their motorcycle skidded and collided with a steel road divider. She succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while her boyfriend survived with a leg injury.
Alssa's stepfather, Mr. Xu, shared that the young woman had recently received her passport and was eager to surprise her mother with a visit. On Monday night, she had called Xu to announce her plans.
The couple arrived in Genting Highlands at 1 am on Tuesday and spent a few precious hours with her family. They left at 5 am so her boyfriend could return to Singapore in time for a meeting.
Friends and family remembered Alssa as a bright and cheerful individual. "She was bright and joyful," Mr. Xu said during her funeral on Wednesday. Her friends, deeply affected by her sudden passing, gathered to pay their respects.
Alssa, the only child in her family, had recently graduated from Kaplan and was actively seeking employment.
Alssa's boyfriend, who attended the funeral in a wheelchair, expressed his remorse to her family. Though visibly grief-stricken, he declined to speak to reporters.
The couple had been dating for only three months, having met outside of school.
Alssa's funeral was held on Wednesday, and she will be cremated at Mandai Crematorium on Saturday afternoon. Her tragic passing serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the fragility of life, leaving her family and friends mourning the loss of a promising young woman taken too soon.
