There has never been a proper initiative for the safety of motorcyclists and cyclists alike, at least none that goes beyond wearing a helmet. But that is about to change.
Penang Island City Hall has taken up the "Orange Grid" initiative in order to ensure the safety of the vulnerable group of riders whilst on the road. But, what is this grid for, exactly?
The orange grid is designed as a mark for motorcyclists and cyclists to wait in traffic lights. It can also be used for pedestrians to cross the road, much like a zebra crossing.
This orange grid is designed solely for the use of riders and is strictly prohibited for cars, as demonstrated by the picture above. This will likely prevent rider-related accidents on the road where they usually would swerve through cars in a dangerous manner to get by.
