If you didn‘t know, people have been using Ivermectin, an anti-parasite drug for animals as an initiative to ward against Covid-19 infection. Here’s why that‘s not a good idea:
According to US Food And Drug Administration (FDA), Taking large doses of this drug is dangerous and can cause serious harm. Although this feels needless to say, drugs specifically designed for animals are not in any way suitable for human consumption.
That being said, the Malaysian government is currently running a comprehensive research on the drug, known as Ivermectin Treatment Efficacy on Covid-19 High-Risk Patient to investigate the effect of Ivermectin on infected patients, as told by the Malaysian minister of health, Datuk Seri Dr. Adham Baba. The result is expected to be due in September.
In the meantime, the public is advised not to consume Ivermectin despite it being sold online as there is no scientific evidence that confirms the anti-parasite drug is effective against the Covid-19 virus, as of yet.
