We all make mistakes, sometimes it's a silly mistake like wearing the wrong sock, other times it's a big mistake like accidentally transferring RM1,000 to the wrong account number. Yikes! That's bad!
So now that the mistake is done, what happens next? Is the money gone forever? Will you never get it back? Recently, a Twitter user @anisssurayaaa shared how you can try and get back your money.
So, here's what you can do to try and get your money back:
#1 Make a police report
Go to the police station and inform them that you'd like to make a report for accidentally transferring money to the wrong account. Make sure you also provide them with this information:
- time of transaction
- account number of the mistaken transaction
- the total amount of money transferred to the account
- any other supporting information
#2 Go to your bank and explain your situation to the staff
When talking to the staff, explain to them your situation and ask them if you can get your money back.
#3 Wait for the consent of the account owner
If they agree to return the money then, they will have to come to the bank and fill up a form.
-- What happens if they do not agree to do so?
You will have to bring the case to court. If the amount exceeds RM 5000, then you will need a lawyer. If it is below RM 5000 then you will have to fill up a claim form.
-- Will I get back my money?
According to the Tweet, it is definitely not easy to get back your money once you've accidentally made a wrong transfer. So always remember to double-check the numbers before continuing with your transaction.
