A boating mishap unfolded near Persiaran Karpal Singh, Sungai Pinang, Pulau Pinang, leading to injuries for two of the four individuals aboard, including the captain and passengers.
Reports indicate that they were awaiting a nasi kandar order when the incident transpired, and they were subsequently rescued by local fishermen. As detailed by Kosmo!, the vessel, described as a luxury boat, was en route from Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, to Pulau Langkawi.
Consequently, they anchored in the waters near Pulau Pinang to await their food delivery, which was expected from acquaintances. During this wait, a generator malfunction triggered an explosion, resulting in injuries to the captain and a passenger, presumably from glass shards.
Fortunately, nearby fishermen swiftly came to their aid before authorities were notified of the situation. The captain sustained leg injuries, while the other individual suffered injuries to the ear and hand. Both were promptly transported to a nearby clinic for medical attention, confirmed by the Chief of the Fire and Rescue Department (BBP).
Conversely, the remaining two passengers emerged unscathed and are reported to be in stable condition. The search and rescue (SAR) operation, which concluded at 5:08 p.m., involved efforts from the fire department, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM), and the Marine Department.
The vessel, registered in Langkawi, Kedah, ultimately sank approximately 300 to 500 meters from the shoreline.
