Based on reports, North Korean athletes may be facing some punishments from their country for taking pics with South Korean athletes during the Paris 2024 Olympics.
They are apparently undergoing an ideological evaluation in Pyongyang.
The incident which caused this was when table tennis players Ri Jong-sik and Kim Kum-yong was seen taking a selfie with South Korean and Chinese athletes on the Olympic podium.
It was at the time praised internationally as a symbol of unity, but unfortunately did not meet the same opinion back in North Korea.
They are currently face potential punishments severity depending on the findings of the 3-stage evaluations (to see if they followed the regime’s values at the Olympics).
After returning on August 15, they and the Olympic Committee delegation were inspected by the Central Party's Propaganda Department.
This has happened in the past, with athletes facing punishments such as harsh labour.
