A mother of two has captured the internet's attention after her daily work commute by plane was featured in a video by CNA Insider. The video, which showcases her extraordinary routine, has gained over 270,000 views in less than a day since being uploaded on Tuesday (Feb 4).
Racheal Kaur, an assistant manager for finance operations at AirAsia, starts her day at 4 AM, boarding a flight from Penang to Kuala Lumpur for work. By 7:30 PM, she's back home with her children. Though the journey is demanding, Kaur says the sacrifice is worth it when she gets to see her 12-year-old son and 11-year-old daughter at the end of the day.
Despite the unusual nature of her commute, Kaur's decision to live in Penang is a practical one. The lower cost of living allows her to save on food and accommodation compared to Kuala Lumpur. Additionally, her round-trip airfare costs just RM50 per day an employee privilege that comes with working at AirAsia. However, her waitlisted ticket means she faces the occasional risk of being bumped off flights during peak travel seasons.
Working at the airport also plays a crucial role in making this lifestyle possible. Upon landing in Kuala Lumpur, Kaur can reach her desk within minutes, bypassing the traffic congestion that many other commuters endure daily.
Kaur previously worked remotely during the pandemic but opted to return to the office for better focus. While some may find her schedule overwhelming, she believes the trade-offs are justified.
Kaur's story sheds light on the lengths some individuals go to balance career aspirations with family life. While her daily flights may seem extreme, they allow her to maintain financial stability and quality time with her children, two factors she deems essential.
Her journey also serves as a reminder that unconventional solutions can sometimes be the key to a fulfilling life.
