Syed Saddiq: Toll Subsidy Unfair to East Malaysians, Calls for Change

25-Apr-2023

Syed Saddiq recently spoke out about the toll subsidy provided by the government during the Raya holidays and how it failed to benefit Sabah and Sarawak due to the high cost of flight tickets.

He urged the government to take action and implement the previously proposed subsidy initiative to address the issue of expensive flights to East Malaysia.

"We need to help our friends in Sabah and Sarawak too. They should also enjoy the RM93 million subsidy, just like how we enjoy free tolls in the peninsula.

"Fair and just, the government should transparently report the latest data on flight capacities and costs needed to also subsidize flights for them. We need to realize the 'credit fund' initiative that was previously mentioned," he said on Instagram.

He also cited an incident where a woman paid RM600 for a new ticket to Sabah due to a delayed transit flight.

"The fact is that flight ticket prices are like going to Australia," he emphasized.

The government had allocated over RM93 million for the free Rahmah Toll subsidy, covering 33 highways across the country for all vehicle types.
