A summon has been issued by the police to the father of a 12-year-old kid who was seen driving at Jalan Kampung Nyabor here in a viral video.
The summons was issued under Section 26 (1) B of the Road Transport Act 1987 for permitting a motorist to operate without a valid license, according to Sibu police commander ACP Zulkipli Suhaili.
"On June 5 at around 3 p.m., we discovered a public video on Facebook that seemed to be of a minor driving a car in Jalan Kampung Nyabor.
At around 6:50 p.m. that day, we were able to locate the driver and his parents. He stated in a statement, "They were taken to Sibu Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division for investigation and further action."
Videos circulating online depict the boy driving away in a white Inokom i10 after an initial confrontation. In another video, members of the public are seen reprimanding and physically hitting the boy, causing him to cry and throw tantrums as he is repeatedly struck.
According to Zulkipli, the boy's medical record at the Psychiatry Specialist Clinic of Sibu Hospital indicates that he has autism. The inquiry revealed this.
He emphasized that the police were addressing the situation properly and advised the public not to speculate based on the widely shared video.
