Based on reports, Malaysian performers have won a total of 37 medals at a US dance competition!
At the 27th World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) held in California from 28 June till 6 July, team Malaysia won 13 gold medals, 11 silver medals, and 13 bronze medals across 70 categories.
The competition featured six categories and Datuk Siti Nurhaliza's niece, Ummi Umairah Saiful Anuar, aged 13, also took part in the competition.
She successfully secured a gold medal in the junior championship vocalist category. "This win is for all of you. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved", she posted on her IG (@umairah_sairahtarudin).
At the opening ceremony, Malaysia showcased their traditional attire representing various ethnicities to promote the country's arts and culture.
The team's dance performance in the 'Parade of Nations' captivated everyone, snagging the best costume award.
"I am extremely excited and proud of Team Malaysia's success this year. They have surpassed the team's success expectations and brought pride to the country. Especially with Ummi's success in becoming the world champion at the grand finals. The last time we won this vocal category was in 2014 by Aina Abdul", said the Malaysian team director.
The competition saw over 70 countries competing for the world title.
