According to Oriental Daily, a Malaysian woman saw a cat for sale advertisement in a WhatsApp group and wanted to buy a pet cat online. She then transferred a total of RM9,200 to the other party's bank account through five bank transfers. However, after waiting for a long time and still not receiving the cat, she realized that she had been cheated and immediately reported the case to the police.
The police are currently investigating the case under Section 420 of the Penal Code. If found guilty, the offender could be sentenced to imprisonment for a term of not less than one year and not more than 10 years, as well as caning and a fine.
In addition, the police also urged the public to check the information of scammers through the website http://semakmule.rmp.gov.my , and also contact the Commercial Criminal Investigation Department at 013-211 1222 for enquiries to avoid being deceived.
