Autism is a lifelong neurodevelopmental disorder that affects brain development, impacting communication, social interaction, and learning abilities.
In a recent video, famous Malaysian TV personality Aznil Haji Nawawi, also known as Pak Nil, shows us his distinct viewpoint on autism despite the stigma that still surrounds it.
Pak Nil recently came upon a family with an autistic child while riding the ETS train from Penang to Kuala Lumpur.
The aunt of the child apologised to the passengers for the noise, but Pak Nil told her that he completely understands the child's condition, and that there was no need for an apology.
However, it was not just the gesture of the apology that touched netizens' hearts. It was more so that he went out of his way, to walk all the way to the back of the train from his seat, just to assure the aunt that her situation is completely reasonable, even making contact with the boy.
The aunt revealed that it was their first time traveling by train, and she was concerned about upsetting other people.
He then proceeded to ask her about her experience around public surrounding autism and autistic children. The lady shared that there is still much stigma around it and that more conversations are needed to educate the public.
As Pak Nil returned to his seat, he expressed that he was emotional from the situation.
Many were moved by Pak Nil's thoughtful act, and some of them shared their own stories of parenting children with special needs.
