A devastating collision involving three vehicles on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) claimed seven lives on December 23, marking a somber incident just before the holiday season. The crash occurred on the northbound lane and involved a tour bus carrying 27 passengers, a trailer, and a multipurpose vehicle (MPV).
Melaka Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director Mohd Pisar Aziz reported that the victims included three men, three women, and a baby girl. Five of the deceased were occupants of the MPV, including two men, two women, and the infant. The remaining two fatalities were the tour bus driver and a female passenger.
The collision resulted in extensive injuries, with 33 survivors requiring immediate medical attention. Seventeen victims were transported to Melaka Hospital, while ten were taken to Alor Gajah Hospital, and six to Pantai Ayer Keroh Hospital. The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to Melaka Hospital for further procedures.
The incident caused severe traffic disruption, with congestion extending over ten kilometers in both directions along the highway. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify all parties involved in this tragic accident.
The Fire and Rescue Department and medical emergency services responded promptly to the scene, working diligently to assist the victims and manage the aftermath of this catastrophic collision.
