The one thing we Malaysians take pride in no matter race, religion, culture, or language, is when great people carry the Malaysian name to even greater scales. From Nichol David, to Julian Yee, Pandelela Rinong to Farah Ann Abdul Hadi, the country rejoices nationwide every time we do something right (as we should).
Following in the footsteps of badminton legend, Datuk Lee Chong Wei, is one Lee Zii Jia.
Winning the men's singles in the All England Open 2021 against Denmark player Viktor Axelsen, Lee Zii Jia finished off the finals with a strong 21-9 to Viktor, and made history (March 21st 2021).
His great win was greeted grandly by netizens, congratulating the 22 year old player on a job well done!
Born and bred in Kedah, Zii Jia was the men's singles gold medalist at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games. He was first introduced to the sport at the age of 5, and has been playing, as well as competing since.
A stellar game indeed, and only another reason to celebrate 'Malaysia Boleh', congratulations Lee Zii Jia!
