Two male Afghan journalists have been brutally crushed, kicked, and detained for hours by the Talibans, for the sole "crime" of covering the women's rights protest that erupted after the militant group announced that women would not be allowed to hold senior positions in Afghanistan's new government.
The two journalists, Nematullah Naqdi and his colleague Taqi Daryabi of Etilaat Roz were abused with batons, electrical cables, and whips that left deep physical wounds on both their bodies.
"One of the Taliban put his foot on my head, crushed my face against the concrete. They kicked me in the head ... I thought they were going to kill me," Naqdi recalled in an interview.
The journalists were told, "You're lucky you weren't beheaded," by the Talibans prior to being released. Nagdi added, "We were in so much pain that we couldn't move," Daryabi added.
"They see us as enemies."
