The flood may have subsided in some areas but that just means the task of cleaning up home has just begun and it is not going to be an easy task. Most M'sians must be looking forward to salvaging most of their belongings but remember that not everything can be saved!
Just remember that flood victims are advised not to dispose of electrical appliances that have sunk into flood waters.
This is because they may be saved if you follow these tips shared by a Facebook page user known as Chik YS.
According to the user, the first step is to never try to turn them on to test whether they still work.
Next, gather all your electrical appliances and was with water to get rid of the mud. Open up all the covers and anything else that could be opened until you can see the components inside then was out the mud.
Don’t brush them, if really needed, use a paint brush to rub out stubborn mud.
When you feel like they are clean enough, dry them under the sun for 2 to 3 days until there is no water or any dampness on the interior components.
The user also said that if you have a hair dryer, blow some hot air on the areas that are hard to dry so that they are thoroughly dried.
Once you are sure they are properly dried, put back all the covers that you removed and then turn them on to check if they are still functional.
Here's the Facebook post for your reference:
Make sure you are patient and wait until the appliance is fully dried before testing it.
Please stay safe and make sure you don’t get electrocuted. Wear rubber slippers and use insulated tools to turn on the switches or to handle the electrical appliances.
