How To: Practice Self-Care When You Don’t Feel Like It

11-Jan-2021

Let’s begin by saying that if you have made it this far into 2021, you deserve a medal. In the wake of the pandemic, the concept of self-care has become one of the most highlighted survival methods if one wishes to survive. But some days are tougher than the others. So, what do you do when that happens? What can you do when you find yourself dragging through the day, wishing it’d end?

Taking care of yourself doesn’t always have to be a chore. There are three simple yet life-changing steps on how you can practice self-care even when you’d rather hate yourself instead.

1. Take A Break

Whilst there is joy in working from home in the sense that you can maximize your level of comfort, it can however, take its toll. Oftentimes, overworking is easily mistaken for productivity which would often lead to burnout.

In case no one has told you this yet, it is okay to take a break.

Self-care in this case could be as simple as giving yourself a five minute rest in between meeting deadlines.

You deserve it.

2. Celebrate Little Victories.

You didn’t burn your toast this morning? That calls for a celebration.

You brushed your hair for the first time in weeks? Good for you. Treat everyday accomplishments as victories worthy of celebrating and you’ll notice that it works wonders on how positively it can affect your mood. The point is, start congratulating yourself more, regardless of how seemingly insignificant it may be.

After all, we’re in a pandemic, so cut yourself some slack.

3. Practice Positive Affirmations

I am radiant.

I deserve all that is good.

I am doing the best I can.

Positive thoughts are your best weapon against negativity. Try saying positive affirmations to yourself as a daily routine and soon, you will feel much, much lighter. If you don’t know where to start, take these three examples as your starters.

To sum it up, self-care doesn’t always need to be fancy. In some cases, it could be as easy as simply having a shift in perspective.

How do you choose to love yourself today?
