Viruses are known to evolve and mutate over time, and whilst the world is still making terms with the recent discovery of the UK variant B.1.1.7, now emerges a newer threat in the form of L452R, a straint currently going rampant in California.

The first recorded case of its kind was located in Denmark and has been responsible for the outback across several states in California since May 2020, with its Covid-19 cases now reaches 3 million.

According to US-based virologist Dr. Charles Chiu, this variant in particular influences the spike protein of the virus, deeming any vaccines developed so far inefficient.
