Simpang Ampat: Renters of a two-storey terrace house in Tasek Mutiara here, decided to leave their two pet pigs in the residential area after moving out.
The action made the neighbours in the residential area uneasy and especially since the owners let the pigs go hungry without food.
Residents who wanted to be known as Ima said the pigs had been abandoned since June and the neighbours only realized that they were abandoned last September.
Ima said, not only did it cause a sense of unease, but the cleanliness of the surrounding area had also been decreasing.
“Despite disagreeing with the action of keeping pigs at the residential area, nearby neighbors had to give food out of pity for the starving animals.
"Complaints have been made to the housing management to for further action to be taken, including contacting the homeowners.
"However, until today, the animal is still in the porch of the house and the management keep giving excuses like they know about the issue and action is being taken," he said when contacted here today.
According to Ima, she regrets that the management does not seem to take the problem seriously and making the problem to drag on.
She has lived there for two years and said the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) also came to the location yesterday after a complaint was made.
"It is understood that a summons was issued to the owner of the residence and the owner of the house was given a period of three days to move the animal.
"If there is still no action, we will apply to MBSP to move the animal using the existing legal provisions, not only for the welfare of the neighborhood but also the welfare of the animal that needs to be taken care of.
"This matter needs to be addressed immediately because pigs cannot be kept as pets in the housing areas of a multiracial society and it is hoped that it will be a lesson so that it does not happen again elsewhere," she said.
