A man from Indonesia was compelled to marry his girlfriend at a police station after he was arrested for stealing a motorcycle. The 25-year-old man, hailing from Ambengan Batu, Surabaya, had his wedding ceremony at the Sukolilo Police Station yesterday, three days before the planned date.
According to reports, the man was apprehended by the police for stealing a Honda Scoopy motorcycle on Jalan Medokan Semampir AWS 2 No 1, Sukolilo Surabaya.
Sukolilo's Police Commissioner I explained that the groom attempted to steal the vehicle early in the morning before being noticed by the owner. "Residents woke up and went out of the house to catch the suspect, who had not yet escaped with the victim's motorcycle," he stated. The groom was allegedly assaulted by the residents, resulting in facial bruises, while one of his accomplices managed to flee.
Police stated that the groom resorted to theft as he couldn't afford to buy a wedding ring for his partner. Following his arrest, the man's family requested to hold the wedding ceremony at the police station, which received approval from all parties.
The couple was wed at the police station, both dressed in grey wedding attire. The groom acknowledged his actions and expressed remorse for bringing shame to his wife, family, and in-laws. As a consequence of the incident, the suspect had to postpone honeymoon plans with his newlywed wife.
