Although fellow Malaysians are blessed with ample rain and sun, enjoying a seasonless climate, it can be devastating when the weather changes too quickly, especially for hawkers.
A video recently went viral on TikTok, showing a storm "crashing" into a popiah stall, leaving many heartbroken witnesses. The incident took place a week ago in Johor Bahru, where a TikTok-famous popiah stall faced an unexpected storm that destroyed its entire setup, forcing the owner to shut down.
According to the video, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds almost blew away the canopy. Workers had to cling to the canopy to prevent it from flying away. While holding it down, another strong gust of wind flipped the table, causing all the sauces prepared for the popiah to spill out.
Many netizens were saddened by the damages caused by the storm and expressed their well-wishes for the stall owner.
The account later posted an update in the following days, stating that they were fortunate as the damage wasn't extensive, and the hot-oil-filled frying wok did not spill during the strong wind. However, their canopy was torn, and they had to replace it with a new one.
It is undoubtedly the rainy season in Malaysia. Remember to bring your umbrella and check the weather and navigation app before leaving your place.
