In a tragic incident, a police officer with the rank of corporal lost his life after a massive tree fell on his vehicle while he was driving. The accident occurred on the afternoon of June 21 at Jalan Felda Sahabat 16 in Lahad Datu, Sabah.
According to Sinar Harian, the 44-year-old officer was driving a police van towards Pantai Sahabat 16 when the fatal accident happened. Lahad Datu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Dzulbaharin Ismail provided details of the incident, stating, "When he reached the location, a tree that was on the side of the road suddenly fell right on the van that was driven by the victim."
The accident was witnessed by another police officer who was riding a motorcycle in the opposing lane. The witnessing officer immediately went to check on the van but found that the victim had already passed away.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which pertains to causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
This tragic event has undoubtedly left a profound impact on the local community and the police force.
