We know how scars can make one feel unconfident in themselves. We were so fixed on the socially-approved-standard of what beauty means, and that really makes many people feeling down and not happy with themselves.
But not Selena Gomez, as she is showing off her kidney transplant scar proudly in her recent Instagram post.
Gomez revealed that she was first feeling unconfident with her own scar, and she used to hide it away. But now she starts to accept it and quote, "Now, more than ever, I feel confident in who I am and what I went through...and I’m proud of that."
In 2017, Gomez was diagnosed with lupus, an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks the body cells and tissues. The diseases impaired her kidneys and she needed a kidney transplant immediately. Lucky for her, her BFF Francia Raisa, whose kidney was a match to Gomez, volunteered to donate her kidney to Gomez.
Gomez also tagged a swimsuit company in her recent post, which promotes inclusivity and she added, "All bodies are beautiful."
We are glad to see Gomez is healthy and feeling good about herself again. We are happy and proud of you, Selena!
