Hakone-en Aquarium in Japan recently switched to cheaper fish from expensive Japanese Horse mackerel as food for the animals as they battle the rising costs of running an aquarium.
Let me tell you, the penguins and otters are not happy with that switch.
Footage shows the birds point blank refusing their new feed and even running away.
The cost of running the aquarium had increased about 20-30 percent last year, in part because of low catches. Hence the switch to less expensive fish.
Head zookeeper, Hiroki Shimamoto said that many of the penguins and otters took the fish in their mouth only to drop them a second later. He further added, "I'm not sure if the animals can taste a significant difference, but you can tell they're not used to it."
Not only the penguins, the otters had also uniformly rejected the cheaper fish.
Must be hard being penguins and otters in a zoo facing inflation, huh?
