A recent incident at an LRT station in Puchong has brought attention to the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities in accessing public transport services. The incident, which occurred late at night, was highlighted by content creator AHYANG on his Instagram profile.
According to AHYANG, the disabled man, who relies on a mobility device, found himself stuck inside the station at around 11:30 PM as both the entry and exit gates were under maintenance. To make matters worse, there were no staff members available to assist him, leaving him stranded and unsure of how to exit the station.
In his post, AHYANG shared a video of the incident and described his encounter with the stranded man. "I haven't taken the LRT for more than 6 or 7 years. I didn't expect to meet this Malay man stuck there when I took the train last night. He didn't ask for help, but he was dumbfounded," wrote AHYANG.
The content creator expressed concern for the broader implications of the situation, particularly for elderly individuals or others with disabilities who might face similar predicaments. "I can't imagine (if this were to happen to) other older people or other OKU [disabled] people. When they encounter such a problem, who can help them?"
AHYANG explained that the stations staff members had already gone home, despite their working hours supposedly extending until midnight. In an effort to resolve the situation, he called a phone number displayed on a poster outside the station. This raised another concern: how would someone inside the station be able to access this number in the first place?
"If they place the phone number outside, how can people inside call it?" AHYANG questioned in his video.
After contacting the number, he was assured that help would arrive. About 20 minutes later, an auxiliary police officer reached the station and assisted the stranded man.
