Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that about 31,503 post-graduate students from 462 higher education institutions were allowed to return to campus to resume academic activities.
The proposal from Higher Education Institutions received approval in the special ministerial meeting in May 16, allowing Masters and PhD students to resume academic activities immediately.
According to New Straits Times, Ismail Sabri said,
"These students need to use special equipment (only available at the laboratory and design studio) to carry out and complete their research."
"Hence, the government has allowed them to return to their campuses to complete their master's and doctoral degrees. It is estimated that there will be only 60 postgraduate students per one higher education institution," he said yesterday.
As conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) has extended until June 9, Ismail Sabri said
"No schools, including privately-run and international schools operating in the country, are allowed to reopen during CMCO."
