Lucky for Penangites, Southeast Asia's first-ever canned food bar, mr. kanso is a must-visit spot in the city. The Japanese food bar was launched in July in Gurney Walk, Penang.
Founded in 2002 in Japan, the largest chain of canned food bars serves premium canned food and alcoholic drinks. Some of their best-selling meals include takoyaki, curry, and paella.
You can also 'shop' for your dishes with a shopping basket. Just browse through the colorful display that features over 100 types of cans.
The major highlight is that all the cans are imported directly from Japan and made without preservatives.
You can rarely find the options here in any typical East Asian supermarkets. In fact, the store sells exotic choices such as 'Yakiniku-Style Horse Meat', urchins, venison, and bee larvae.
If you're feeling less adventurous, try the 'Inaba Butter Chicken Curry', 'Hokkaido Scallops with Lemon Butter Flavour', and 'K&K Bacon in Honey Mustard'.
Sounds interesting? Well, it's definitely listed on our must-visit list when in Penang!
