The much-anticipated polling day for elections in six states has been officially set for August 12.
The nomination day has been scheduled for July 29, giving candidates ample time to prepare their campaign strategies.
EC chairman, Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh, shared the news during a press conference held at the EC headquarters, where he also revealed that August 8 would be the early voting day.
The upcoming elections will see a total of 245 state seats up for grabs across the six states, namely Kedah (36 seats), Kelantan (45 seats), Terengganu (32 seats), Penang (40 seats), Selangor (56 seats), and Negri Sembilan (36 seats). With such a significant number of seats at stake, the stakes are high, and political parties are gearing up for a thrilling two-week campaign period.
Based on the current updated data as of June 21, there are a total of 9,773,571 eligible voters. Among them, 9,674,456 are ordinary registered voters, 49,660 are soldiers and their spouses, 47,728 are police and their spouses, and 1,727 are Malaysians who registered as Absent Overseas Voters.
These numbers represent the diverse voices that will contribute to shaping the outcome of the elections.
