Former Malaysian Prime Minister and ex-President of UMNO, Najib Razak, today requested full release if High Court Judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah recuses himself from the RM2.28 billion 1MDB corruption case.

It is understood that the defense team informed the Kuala Lumpur High Court that this was one of the reliefs sought in the application for Sequerah's recusal, filed today.

"If Your Lordship grants our application (for Sequerah to recuse himself), we pray that the entire trial be nullified and the accused be acquitted of all charges.

"Alternatively, the second option is for the trial to be heard by a new judge, and the third option is for the trial to proceed and be continued by a new high court judge," stated the defense lawyer for Najib Razak, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah.

Najib's defense team reportedly mentioned that they are considering making the application regarding the disclosure that Sequerah was once a partner in the same law firm as Jasmine Loo, an individual currently detained in connection with the 1MDB scandal.

Meanwhile, Najib Razak, who had previously sought a fair trial for his case, has received various responses from netizens, with some supporting him and others opposing him.
