A family in the village of Jikotamo, Obi District, South Halmahera, Indonesia, had to take a shortcut to resolve a major issue when the prospective groom fled on the day of the wedding. As a result, the woman was married to the groom's father. It was reported that this decision came under pressure from the bride's family, who wanted the ceremony to proceed.
In a video that is now going viral in the country, a man wearing a long-sleeved batik shirt is seen sitting facing an individual who claimed to be the groom's father. The video proceeds with the marriage contract ceremony between the groom's father and the woman who was supposed to be his bride. According to sources, the bride's older brother explained that their family arrived at the wedding venue as soon as they received the news.
"Guests had already arrived to attend the wedding. The groom's family then informed us that their son had gone missing and couldn't be located," the source explained.
The brother further stated that his sister had been in a long-standing romantic relationship with her chosen partner. He added that he and his family incurred losses of up to Rp25 million (approximately RM7,630) in managing the wedding preparations. He also expressed feeling used and embarrassed by the incident.
