In the wake of the impending departure of Sheryl Sandberg, one of the pioneers of the social media giant Facebook, from the board of directors, Meta, the parent company, has announced the appointment of two new directors. Notably, one of them is Tan Hock Eng, the Chief Executive Officer of the communication chip giant Broadcom and a Malaysian of Chinese descent.
On the 14th, Meta issued a statement, officially appointing Tan Hock Eng and John Arnold as new directors, effective immediately.
Born in Penang and aged 72, Tan Hock Eng holds a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Harvard Business School. He has previously held significant positions at companies such as General Motors, PepsiCo, and the precursor of Hume Industries, HUMEIND (5000, Main Board Industrial Stock).
John Arnold, co-founder and co-chair of Arnold Ventures, a venture capital firm, is the other appointee.
Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Meta, welcomed the addition of both individuals to the board and emphasized the company's current focus on building artificial intelligence. Directors with profound expertise in Silicon and energy infrastructure will contribute to realizing the company's long-term vision, according to Zuckerberg.
