Massive Wind During Storm Tears Roof Off Bangsar Apartment

26-May-2024

With heavy storms becoming more prevalent in Malaysia these days, strong winds have been wrecking havoc in the city centre as of late. With a brand new incident surfacing, it's no wonder that we understand that Mother Nature is indeed not a force to be reckoned with.

Making its rounds on social media recently, a video has surfaced of heavy winds tearing the entire roof off the Putra Ria apartment in Bangsar at around 5pm yesterday afternoon.

In the 30-second video, one resident managed to get the very moment that the winds simply blew the roof off the apartment like it was a piece of paper. Scattering down to the car park below, it's obvious that more and more pieces were being destroyed and falling down to the road below.

As reported by Berita Harian, around six housing units at Block 94 were shattered after their roofs were torn off after the strong winds blew in, and six cars and three motorcycles were subsequently damaged by the zinc pieces from the roof that fell down.

Deputy Chairperson of the Lembah Pantai Residents' Representative Council Sub Zone 1, Abdul Haniff Sulaiman, said that this was the first time an incident like this had happened and nearly all the vehicle owners that were affected and made a report to his team. He also stated that immediate action needed to be taken at a housing unit on the 22nd floor as the entire roof was completely uprooted, and that the roof contractor had made an assessment of the damage made.

"We have also made a report to DBKL (Kuala Lumpur City Council) and they were present tonight... the management company, Intra Harta Consultant Sdn Bhd was also present to make a report"

"There is also a representative for the Lembah Pantai Parliamentary Party (Minister of Communications Fahmi Fadzil) who was directed by Fahmi to open a movement room for the residents to make all the appropriate reports," Sulaiman said.

Unfortunately, this apartment was not the first casualty of the heavy winds during the storm, as it was also reported that multiple trees had been uprooted around Kuala Lumpur, causing more damage to the surrounding areas.
