A video showing a food stall operator in Kuala Lumpur using a paint roller handle to stir a pot, allegedly containing chicken feet, has sparked public outrage and led to the temporary closure of the stall. The 30-second clip, posted in the Sri Petaling / Kuchai Lama / Oug / Bukit Jalil / Happy Garden / Salak South Facebook group, captured the incident in shocking detail, sparking widespread criticism over the stall's unhygienic practices.
In the viral video, the paint roller handle can be seen lying on the dirty pavement before the vendor picks it up to stir the pot. As the man stirs, notice viewers the handle touching the contents, potentially contaminating the food. Once he finishes, the handle is placed back on the ground, further raising health concerns. "Was nearby this area and suddenly saw this uncle use a painting stick to stir the chicken feet, and the stick placed on the ground," noted the anonymous individual who uploaded the video.
The video quickly gained traction, with users in the Facebook group expressing shock and dismay over the lack of hygiene. Many called for immediate action, urging the group to report the incident to authorities to prevent others from unknowingly eating at the stall. "What bad luck, encountering such vendors with no regard for hygiene. Remember to report the location so others can avoid it!" commented Yap Chong Koy, echoing the sentiments of many in the community.
Following the public backlash, the kopitiam (coffee shop) that houses the stall issued a statement on October 26 addressing the situation. The establishment confirmed that they had temporarily closed the stall and had conducted a thorough review of the incident. In a Facebook post, the Kopitiam shared, "To uphold high standards of service quality, we have communicated with the relevant parties, and the stall owner has also actively cooperated, decided to suspend operations temporarily to reassess service quality and ensure it meets customer expectations."
The Kopitiam also offered an apology, promising to keep the public updated on any further developments. They emphasized their commitment to food safety and reassured customers that measures were being taken to ensure that the stall operates within hygienic standards.
