A late-night altercation at a coffee shop in Taiping, Perak, has tragically claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy, leaving the community in shock. The incident, which occurred around 11 pm on Monday (January 13), unfolded after a disagreement between a customer and a foreign worker escalated into a physical brawl.
According to witnesses, the dispute began when the customer requested tissue paper from the foreign worker serving them tea. When informed there was a charge for the tissue, the customer became irate, slapping the worker. This action led to a chaotic scene as the two trading blows began. The coffee shop owner and several patrons intervened to break up the fight, but not before significant commotion ensued.
A video of the incident, which has since gone viral on social media, shows the boy, identified as Terence Tan Kean Leong, standing tensely with a plastic chair in hand, watching the chaos unfold. Terence, the son of the coffee shop owner, appeared visibly stressed as he observed the altercation.
Once calm was restored, tragedy struck. As Terence stepped outside the shop, he suddenly collapsed. Bystanders immediately assisted him into a chair and attempted to revive him, but he remained unresponsive. Despite being rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment, doctors were unable to save him.
Taiping district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Nasir Ismail confirmed that there were no criminal elements involved in the boys' death. Authorities are currently awaiting the autopsy report to determine the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, investigations into the fight are ongoing to establish the sequence of events.
Terence's funeral is scheduled to take place tomorrow (January 16) at 11 am. His sudden passing has left his family and the local community heartbroken, as they come to terms with the devastating loss of a young life.
