How long do you think the longest love can last? Caroline Christine Walter from Germany has been loved for more than a century, and no one knows who this admirer is. In 1867, in Freiburg (Germany), the young and beautiful Caroline had many admirers and suitors. However, Caroline died of tuberculosis before her 17th birthday. 

In order to commemorate her beloved sister, Caroline’s closest sister Salma Walter hired a sculptor to create Caroline’s statue in the cemetery. The statue is the image of Caroline lying on the bed with a book in her right hand as if she fell asleep.

Every day, there would be fresh bouquets placed on Caroline’s tomb. Salma knew that it was not placed by her family member, so it was most likely Caroline’s admirer. According to the guardians of the tomb, they said that they didn’t see anyone come in to send the flowers. In other words, the identity of the person who placed the flowers is a mystery. 

Walter has been dead for more than 150 years, and her sister and all the people that knew her in life have long since died as well. However, there are still fresh new flowers carefully placed on the statue’s arm each day, no matter rain or shine.  

Some netizens speculated that the flowers might be placed by the guardians of the tomb. Even after more than a hundred years, this "tradition" is still passed on. Besides, there would be someone who made this story in order to create a legend and sent staff to put flowers every day to maintain the authenticity of the legend. Of course, more talks are related to supernatural phenomena, and even some people order monkeys to climb in and place flowers. No one knows the answer so far.
