The COVID-19 cases in Malaysia are still maintaining at higher levels. Currently, many mildly ill patients are required to be isolated at home and this causes their family members living together will have a higher chance of getting infected.
In this regard, the Ministry of Health (KKM) released detailed steps for washing COVID-19 patients’ clothes. If you really need to wash clothes for your infected family members, remember to follow the steps below to reduce the risk of infection!
Steps
1. Put the patient's clothes in a sealed bag or container and take them out until the clothes are cleaned.
2. Don't put the patient's clothes and family's clothes together.
3. When washing the patient's clothes, be sure to wear a mask and disposable gloves.
4. Don't shake the patient's clothes to prevent the virus on the clothes from spreading into the air.
5. Use clean water and detergent to wash the patient's clothes.
6. If washing in a washing machine, it is recommended to use hot water at a temperature between 60°C and 90°C to wash the patient's clothes. If washing by hand, first soak the clothes in a bucket filled with hot water.
7. After washing clothes, discard disposable gloves and wash hands with soap or disinfectant.
8. Expose the patient's clothes in the sun.
9. Wash your hands after finishing.
