A woman found herself grappling with the aftermath of her mother's substantial financial loss, which occurred due to her involvement in a WhatsApp scam. Nur Shalwani Shari took to Facebook to express her disappointment over her mother's tendency to engage with messages from unknown individuals on the platform, while also intending to use the experience as a cautionary tale for others.
Shalwani revealed that her mother had been scammed out of RM58,745, attributing it to her mother's attempt to navigate the situation independently. Despite their previous warnings, Shalwani and her siblings observed their mother's continued trust in outsiders over their counsel, exacerbating their frustration over the loss, which surpassed RM60,000.
Despite the grim reality of unrecoverable losses, Shalwani's resolve to address the situation remained steadfast. She and her husband took the initiative to file a police report, recognizing the futility of reclaiming the funds but aiming to instil awareness in her mother. Despite her emotional turmoil, Shalwani acknowledged the need to entrust the outcome to a higher power and pledged to take necessary precautions, including changing her mother's contacts and social media connections.
