ROMPIN: A supermarket employee was charged in the Magistrate's Court here today on charges of killing a two-year-old boy last week
Accused Mohd Noor Ab Manap, 31, nodded when the charge was read out in front of Magistrate Wahidah Zainal Abidin, but no confession was recorded from the father of four children because the murder case was under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
According to the charge, he was charged with killing an individual known as Adam who was about two years old at a house in Jalan Janglau 1, Kampung Janglau here at 2am on November 11 under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the death penalty, if convicted.
The court set January 20 next year for re-mention of the case to obtain a chemical and forensic report.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurhalimatun Saadiah Abdullah while the accused was represented by lawyer Ahmad Deniel Roslan.
Meanwhile, Rompin District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Mohd Azahari Mukhtar in a statement today said the victim was confirmed dead at Rompin Hospital at 4 am on November 11.
He said the victim was taken to hospital at 2am the same day after found unconscious by a man believed to be the child's adoptive father.
Further examination by a medical officer found that there were injuries such as bruises on the back of the body and the victim's abdomen believed to be due to being stepped on, he said.
It is understood that the Indonesian victim, whose mother has died and has no father, was handed over to the suspect's brother-in-law’s care since December last year.
