Only less than half or about 45 percent of the total area burned at the landfill in Pulau Burung, Nibong Tebal here has not been extinguished so far.
Just so you know, the landfill has been on fire since January 12! It has been 2 weeks!!!
You can also see it from the bridge!
The director of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Saadon Mokhtar, said that his party received good cooperation from all parties involved and launched the operation.
Apart from water, we also use land donated by MBSP (Seberang Perai City Council) which is about 50 to 60 lorries a day to help put out the fire.
"So far, we cannot give an expectation when this fire can be completely extinguished, however, we will try to do our best," he told reporters after attending the Malaysian Family Safety and Fire Hazard Elimination Campaign (MBK) in conjunction with the Chinese New Year in Bukit Mertajam in here today.
The fire incident in an area of about 11.3 hectares lasted for the past two weeks, forcing about 90 families from two nearby areas to be evacuated and closing 10 schools.
