A mother and son duo who sold packed rice using a car to people in black plastic bags were eventually caught by authorities at Jalan Padang Tembak, Pengkalan Chepa recently.
The trader, a woman in her 50s, and her son, in his 20s, were arrested at 9 am by enforcement officers from the State Islamic Religious Affairs Department of Kelantan (Jaheaik) and the Kota Bharu Islamic City Council (MPKB-BRI).
The Deputy Director of Enforcement Division of Jaheaik, Mohd Fadzuli Mohd Zain, said that they conducted surveillance for a week based on information from the public.
"The woman's son drove a Perodua Myvi while his mother sold packed rice with fish and chicken around Jalan Padang Tembak."
"During the operation, we also detained two male truck drivers in their 40s who bought packed rice sold by the siblings," he explained.
According to him, they are well-known vendors in Kota Bharu. He added that they are believed to have sold rice to those who 'ponteng puasa' since last year and continued the activity on the first day of Ramadan this year.
"They are charged under Section 10 of the Shariah Criminal Offences (I) Enactment 2019 for not respecting the month of Ramadan by selling food."
