Over 20 female students at a secondary school in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, are suspected of contracting food poisoning after participating in leadership training.
The children, aged 13 to 17, are said to have eaten packaged lunches given during the event on Friday and Saturday.
Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin, Kelantan Health Director, verified the information.
One student's mother reported that her child experienced stomach problems on the second day of the training after eating a bad chicken meal.
"My daughter suffered diarrhea and fever that same night," she went on to say.
After seeking treatment at a clinic, she took her daughter to the emergency department of a hospital in Kota Bharu.
Another mom said that her daughter complained of stomach ache and nausea on Saturday evening.
"At first, I thought my child had gastric pain, but her condition continued to worsen, and she started vomiting," she went on to say.
Her suspicions about food poisoning were verified when she discovered that her daughter's peers had reported having identical symptoms.
In the meantime, Zaini stated that the matter is still under investigation.
