If Taiwan isn't already on your bucket list, it should be. This solo travel haven boasts efficient transit, vibrant culture, and a blend of natural beauty and city lights. Heres a 5-day guide through the scenic spots, hidden gems, and city vibes we uncovered during our solo Taiwan adventure!


Pro Tip: For sun-seekers, Taiwan in summer is a treat, but for those wary of heat, the cooler seasons make exploring Taiwan even more enjoyable.


Day 1: Evening Arrival & Local Delights in Songshan District

After arriving in Taipei in the evening, we checked in at Illume Hotel in Songshan District and started with an easy-going neighbourhood stroll. This area is packed with 24-hour convenience stores, each offering Taiwan's famous herbal eggs with their own unique twist.


Pro Tip: Try a few herbal eggs from different stores you'll find that each has its own secret recipe!


Day 2: Scenic Heights, Art Workshops, and Taipei by Night

Our day started with a visit to the Maokong Gondola, where we soared above lush tea plantations.

The views of Maokong Mountain were stunning, with endless green stretching across the horizon.

Next, we headed to eslite spectrum Songyan at Songshan Cultural and Creative Park. This artsy hub was a treat, featuring a mix of shops, art installations, and a unique glass crafting workshop that made for a special keepsake.

We capped the day with the Taipei Double-decker Night Tour, an effortless way to see the city under its dazzling night lights, hitting Taipei's most iconic landmarks on a relaxed, hop-on, hop-off ride.


Day 3: Rails, Ports, and Views of Taipei 101

The Shen'ao Rail Bike Trail was our first adventure, biking a scenic 4.2-kilometre path along a repurposed railway once used for coal transport.

Afterward, we visited Zhengbin Fishing Port, known as "Taiwan's Venice" for its colorful waterfront buildings. With rows of rainbow-coloured houses and charming dockside cafes, it's a photographers dream come true.

Later, we checked into amba Taipei Songshan and were treated to an incredible view of Taipei 101 – a sight to remember.


Day 4: Skyscrapers, Culture, and Bustling Markets

The day started at the Taipei 101 Observatory on the 89th floor of one of the tallest buildings in the world.

Offering panoramic city views, this is a must-visit, and if you're a thrill-seeker, the elevator ride (holding the world record for speed ) adds an extra rush.

Next, we visited Taipei Grand Mosque in Da'an District, Taiwans oldest mosque, which serves as a cultural landmark for the city's Muslim community.

Our journey continued along Dadaocheng Street, a historical district lined with heritage buildings, tea shops, and temples, making it ideal for leisurely wandering.

We ended the day in Ximending Shopping District, known as the Harajuku of Taipei. This vibrant pedestrian zone is packed with fashion, entertainment, and fantastic street food.


Day 5: Wishes in the Sky and Feline Friends

On our last day, we visited Shifen Old Street to release sky lanterns – a tradition where you write wishes on lanterns and set them afloat. Watching them fly up the sky was a beautiful and symbolic farewell to Taiwan.

Finally, we stopped at Houtong Cat Village, a whimsical town where cats roam freely, and every corner is adorned with feline-themed shops and cafes – a must for any cat lover.
